Yosemite 2004

Yosemite National Park, California - 2004

Our second vacation this year was to Yosemite National Park, a place which, believe it or not, I'd never seen before.  (I know, I know... it was always one of those 'When we have time' kinds of things.  Finally, we decided to make the time.)

On this outing, all the photos were taken using our new Canon D10 digital SLR.  Following are a dozen of the best shots.

The weather wasn't exactly cooperative.  Being mid-August, the falls were all but completely dry.  Moreover, the light usually wasn't ideal.  On the other hand, the views from Glacier Point were something else, and what's more can't be seen for roughly half the year due to road closures during the winter season.

Click on the thumbnails to see the photos; all are roughly 300-400kb in size for the download.

As with the other photos, if you're looking at these and see any you like, and would be interested in seeing the full-resolution versions, send me email.

Yosemite - Meadow, early morning, not far from the Lodge

Yosemite - El Capitan, alas forever burned in my mind as the place where the WORST of the Star Trek movies had its opening scene

Yosemite - Lake Siesta, known as a 'dying lake', left over from the glacial periods

Yosemite - View along road to Tuolomne Meadows, looking towards Lake Tenaya

Yosemite - General view up to the southeast of Half Dome, towards Mount Clark

Yosemite - Extreme telephoto shot from Glacier Point, looking down at Vernal Falls, greatly reduced at late summer

Yosemite - Panoramic view, in which you can see (left to right) Half Dome, Vernal and Nevada Falls

Yosemite - Half Dome, first of a number of photos of this remarkable glacier-created rock formation

The Yosemite valley floor, and Half Dome

Another picture of Yosemite valley and Half Dome, but a little while later, as the clouds were getting thicker

Yosemite valley and Half Dome, from a different perspective

Yosemite - Late afternoon, looking towards Half Dome from the valley floor
