Greetings again from Penukonda, my dear Imaginary Readers! Miss me?
Alas, it has been difficult finding time and opportunity to get onto the single shared dial-up line currently available to most of the ashram residents.
But have I let that stop me? Nay! I am the Technowitch — she who finds solutions to problems, and in this case, the solution included (1) Sony Vaio laptop with Bluetooth capabilities, (2) One Motorola MPx-220 cell phone with GPRS, (3) a cell phone carrier here in India offering data services for a very reasonable 499Rs/month for unlimited connections.
It’s still pretty slow, about the same as regular dial-up, but I am completely wire-free. Or would be, if I didn’t need to recharge both laptop and phone after some rather lengthy time spent online getting email and doing some research for the ashram staff. I even figured out how to send outgoing email through some SMTP kludges.
As a result, I should be online more, and yes — I shall be turning comments back on, as of this post.
cheers!
Becca
Testing…testing…
Send me email, folks, if you try to post a comment and the system won’t let you. The addy is admin(at)rebeccamorn.com. (Replace (at) with @)
welcome back. I’d live with dialup speeds if my wireless offered decent rates around here.
Welcome back! :>)
Yes! Houston…we have contact!
Thanks Larry, PoetryMan,
Sorry about the delay in posting your comments — I neglected to turn off the “moderate all” option.
And I agree, Larry… this ain’t bad, and for the equivalent of about $11/mo, I think it’s worth it.
Especially since I don’t have to share that single line anymore… Wheee!
Niiiiicccceeeee..
I would be defintely watching my RSS feed.
Go wireless! Go bluetooth!
I dated a wireless bluetooth in college… Oh. Wait. She wasn’t bluetoothed. Never mind. :>)
One would hope not, PoetryMan, as blue teeth would likely be indicative of a serious malady. Or else odd personal adornment preferences.
And hiya Racer — it’s good to be back. Even if sloooow. I just reduced the displayed post count on the blog from 20 to 10, just to keep load-times tolerable for me.
hey, you! witch of Penukonda!
so I’ve just gotten (mercifully) lengthy emails from you, O Techno-Witch of the East, and am looking forward to more.
just a word to you to pass along to Gonga & Tara — PLEASE let them know about the spam problem with emailers and dial-ups in India (esp at hotels). they think we’re mad at them because of a long silence, when in fact we simply didn’t receive their emails because those emails had been tossed in the junk mail bin.
(we got an “internet” but it didn’t actually go through. must be all them damned tubes are clogged again!)
anyway, please let them know it’s not personal and we’ve emailed them, now, repeatedly and in duplicate.
blessings on your head, Madam Becca — and namaste!
Alx
btw — I’m writing this on your OTHER Vaio…. here in Boulder Creek.
Alx
*LOL!* How about that, one of my VAIOs in BC talking to another one here on literally the other side of the planet. A shame I didn’t manage to entangle some quantum matter between then two, thus allowing instantaneous communication!
No worries — I’ll get the word to Gonga and Tara, certainly by time we get back to Penukonda, which we’re planning to do on Saturday.
BTW, they remember you at Fazals. I took in a pair of punjabi pants to be duplicated, a pair designed based on your modification (no ‘bloomer’-ness, ride low on hips, etc.). Our favorite harried tailor commented, “Ah, Miss Alx’s style. I know it. No problem.” *grins* I’ve got four pairs on order for Saturday pick-up.
Thank you for the blessings, dearest Madame Alx! Namaste.
